Arrive in Delhi and prepare for your journey into Central India's wilderness. Travel onward to Tadoba, settle into your lodge, and begin your first safaris in Maharashtra's premier tiger reserve. Spend four dedicated days exploring Tadoba's diverse terrain on multiple private safaris. The reserve's mix of bamboo thickets, open meadows, and waterbodies creates exceptional visibility, making it one of India's most consistently rewarding destinations for tiger sightings. Each drive offers the possibility of encountering the full range of Tadoba's remarkable wildlife in its natural rhythm.

Travel into the Central Indian highlands to Kanha, a jewel of the region, where vast sal and bamboo forests shelter tigers, leopards, the rare barasingha, and Indian gaur. Continue to Bandhavgarh, renowned for one of India's highest tiger densities and for its dramatic ancient fort rising above forested cliffs. Safaris here reveal both thrilling wildlife and striking, historically layered terrain.

Enter the dramatic landscapes of Panna, where sandstone gorges, seasonal waterfalls, and the pristine Ken River define a habitat that has staged a remarkable wildlife recovery. This journey unfolds like a living tapestry — connecting legendary forests, rugged escarpments, and serene river valleys into one continuous story of Central India’s wilderness. Your safari begins in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra’s premier tiger destination, where dense forests and open grasslands provide a dramatic stage for Bengal tigers, leopards, and sloth bears, while birdlife thrives along lakes and marshes.

From Tadoba, the route continues into Pench National Park — the forest that inspired Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book — where tigers, leopards, wild dogs, and a rich community of herbivores move through teak forests and riverine corridors. The journey then deepens into Kanha, whose lush sal and bamboo forests shelter tigers and the rare barasingha, before arriving at Bandhavgarh, where ancient cliff-framed forests hold some of India’s highest tiger densities and every safari carries the weight of both natural and human history.

Panna adds drama with its canyon landscapes and river safaris along the Ken, its sandstone gorges and cascading waterfalls framing encounters with tigers, crocodiles, and raptors. Satpura brings the expedition to a considered and soulful close — its quiet trails, moody rolling hills, and intimate wildlife encounters offering a fitting final chapter before the journey concludes in Bhopal.

RAP Safaris curated a bespoke three week itinerary for me that included 17 safaris across five national parks, as well as visits to key attractions in Delhi, the Taj Mahal in Agra and Jaipur. To witness those big cats in Jawaharlal Nehru National Park was a wow experience - a majestic tiger emerged silently from the forest and walk across the track just meters away was a moment I will never forget.
